Global Shapers is a volunteering initiative of the World Economic Forum. Becoming a part of Global Shapers means joining a network of hubs across the world developed and led by young people who desire to make a contribution to their communities. We are entrepreneurs, thought-leaders, professionals, parents, students, and Edmontonians united by our common desire to build a more peaceful and inclusive world.

What It Means to Be a Global Shaper?

Are you ready to make a difference in your community while growing as a leader? The Global Shapers Community (GSC) – an initiative of the World Economic Forum – is a dynamic network of young people around the world who are driving positive change in their cities by initiating local projects that are important to us. Join a global group of changemakers to make your impact today.

You’ll have the chance to:

  • Collaborate with passionate young leaders locally and globally

  • Develop leadership, project management, and teamwork skills

  • Take part in meaningful community initiatives that create lasting impact (areas of community impact includes but are not limited to: climate, education, employment, diversity and inclusion)

  • Opportunity to travel and attend Global Shapers summit, conferences and retreats

  • Access a worldwide network of innovators and change-drivers

  • Access workshops, online resources and opportunities to build your changemaker toolkit

  • To join Global Shapers as a youth leader, the World Economic Forum has mandated the following requirements:

    • You are between 18–27 years old at the time of application

    • You live in Edmonton or the surrounding area

    • You can commit to regular meetings and actively contribute to a project or committee

    • You are eager to work together to make a difference in our community

    • We have regular monthly meetings that occur in hybrid format but in-person attendance is highly encouraged to foster connection.

    • The occurrence of project meetings and commitment are dependent on the project needs

    • The engagement aspect is an important component of our Hub so we have monthly/bi-monthly social events for team-bonding purposes.

  • Global Shapers does require a membership fee of $36 per quarter (annual fee equals to $144). If you foresee challenges in membership fee, we can discuss potential workarounds.

  • Membership in the Global Shapers Community continues until the age of 30, at which point members transition into our Alumni network. Once you join, we encourage ongoing participation so that both you and our hub can make the most of the experience. We understand that life circumstances can change, and membership is designed to be flexible to support your needs while still fostering meaningful engagement.
